Craft project ideas for kids ages 7 to 9

Note Cards

Instead of using store-bought cards, make your own cards to send for birthdays, holidays, thank you’s or just to say hi. Or tie a bunch together with ribbon to give as gifts.

You will need:

Construction paper, white printer paper, scissors, stapler, glue, ribbon, scraps of tissue paper, felt, wrapping paper and/or fabric, markers.

Directions:

For each note card, cut a piece of construction paper into a sheet measuring 8 ½ inches by 5 ½ inches. Fold in half. Cut a piece of white paper into a sheet measuring 7 ½ inches by 4 ½ inches. Fold in half.

Place the white paper inside the colored paper and staple both sheets together at the seam. Or tie the sheets together with a ribbon at the seam.

Decorate the front of each card with bits of paper, felt, fabric and ribbon. You can make balloon shapes with wrapping paper and use ribbon for the balloon strings. Or you can make flower petals or stars with felt and add sparkle with dabs of glitter glue.

Flower Pots

Turn plain flower pots into a keepsake container for flowers or herbs.

You will need:

Plain flower pots, acrylic paints, craft paintbrush.

Directions:

Paint fun designs on the flower pots. Let dry. Use the pots to plant your own herb garden. Or tuck a packet of seeds inside an empty pot and tie a pretty ribbon around it to give as a gift.

Make Your Own Soap

Homemade gifts are fun to make, give and receive. Surprise your grandma, teacher or godmother with a gift of pretty handmade soap.

From oatmeal, to orange cinnamon to chocolate mint, you can make soaps that smell yummy. Find directions and recipes here: http://www.craftbits.com/viewCategory.do?categoryID=SOA

When making soap, be sure to have an adult help you. Wrap each finished gift soap with a ribbon. For an extra-special touch, add a small handmade card with a poem you write yourself.
