Help decorate your house with holiday cheer using things you can find around your house.

Tree Ornaments/Window Sun Catchers

Add some holiday color to any room. You can even use these as special gift tags. Just punch a hole in a small piece of pretty paper and attach it to the ribbon hanger. Write the name of the person the gift is for on the paper.

You will need:

Waxed paper, crayon pieces (bits of broken crayon or shavings from turning a crayon in a pencil sharpener), cookie cutters, pencil, ribbon, single-hole punch, iron (use only with the help of a parent or other adult)

Directions:

Trace a cookie-cutter outline twice on a piece of waxed paper. Cut out the shapes. Put crayon bits or shavings between the two waxed-paper shapes. Press a warm iron over the waxed paper to melt the crayon and fuse the waxed paper together. Punch a hole in the top of the shape when it cools off. Put a piece of 8-inch ribbon through the hole and tie the ends in a knot to make a hanger.

Sparkling Pinecones
Add some sparkle to your house for the holidays.

You will need:

Pinecones collected from your yard or neighborhood, glue, craft paintbrush, glitter.

Directions:

Paint glue onto the ends of pinecones, then sprinkle glitter over the glue. Let dry. Arrange pinecones in a pretty bowl or a clear vase. You can also add other things you might have around the house, like small apples, ornament balls or cranberries. Display on a table or fireplace mantle.

Holiday Luminaries

Recycle your one-gallon milk jugs into fun, glowing holiday characters.

Luminaries aren’t just for Halloween, though. Use your imagination to create your own characters, such as a parade of snowmen for the Christmas season. Add your own special touches with old hats, scarves, or even costume jewelry.
